Concert Ensembles

About

Once marching season has ended for the Blue Coat Regiment, our woodwind, brass and percussion players begin their concert season. Students have multiple performance opportunities: Typically all students perform as part of the Symphonic Band, and advanced players are invited to participate as part of the Wind Ensemble. Both ensembles perform at the annual Florida Bandmasters Association District Concert Music Performance Assessment (MPA).

Reestablished during the 2023–2024 school year, the Jazz Band received an overall Superior rating at Jazz MPA, a first in school history. Students can audition to be members of the Jazz Band, which is a performance opportunity for students who choose to further their experience by learning the art, history and nuance of jazz music, from composition to improvisation, all while playing as a cohesive ensemble.

Since the 2001 Concert MPA, Riverview’s concert ensembles have received ratings of Excellent and Superior—and nothing less. A total of 14 Excellent ratings, six Superior ratings and six Straight Superior ratings have been earned by the Band Program. (There is no data available for ratings for 1999 or 2000, in 2015 both the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band participated and the event was cancelled in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.)

In 2025, the Wind Ensembles received Straight Superiors and the Symphonic Band received 3 Superiors and 1 Excellent.
